Church slates service

ALDEN – The Alden United Methodist Church will begin its Lenten observance with a traditional Service of Ashes on Feb. 17.

The service will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at the church, 16532 Route 173.

Then, beginning Feb. 19, the church for six weeks will host a free Friday Movie Night at 7 p.m. that will feature thought-provoking movies such as “Lars and the Real Girl,” “Faith Like Potatoes,” “Chocolate,” “Babette’s Feast,” “Frozen River,” and “Facing the Giants.” On Feb. 21, after the 9:30 a.m. service, the Alden Confirmation Class will host a Fellowship Hour to raise funds for “Pennies for Peace,” which builds schools for girls in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
