17-year-old accused of sex assault at drinking party
OAKWOOD HILLS – A 17-year-old boy is charged with criminal sexual assault and unlawful restraint after he allegedly raped an 18-year-old woman during an underage drinking party on Woody Way in Oakwood Hills.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said Joseph R. Wilson of Crystal Lake raped the 18-year-old in the master bedroom, where she had been sleeping, in the early morning hours Sunday.
According to police, Wilson entered the bedroom, locked the door and committed sexual assault.
Other people at the party said they heard the woman yelling for Wilson to get off her. They were able to get into the room, and Wilson fled from the house.
The woman was taken to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock.
Wilson later was confronted by people who had been at the home, and a fight ensued. Wilson suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Centegra Hospital – McHenry.
Wilson remained in the McHenry County Jail Tuesday with bond set at $80,000. His next court date is scheduled for Thursday.
If convicted of criminal sexual assault, Wilson could be sentenced to four to 15 years in prison and would have to register as a sex offender. Unlawful restraint typically carries one to three years in prison.
Additional people might be charged as a result of the fight, which the Oakwood Hills Police Department is investigating.
Oakwood Hills Police Deputy Chief Larry Lezon said the department needed to speak with witnesses and Wilson about what happened during the fight and “see if he wants to sign complaints against the parties that battered him.”
There were about 20 people at the party, and the sheriff’s office charged 12 people with underage drinking, Zinke said.
Zinke said the owners of the house were out of town when the party took place. He was not sure whether they might face charges as well.
