Walkup Road closure postponed
WALKUP ROAD: A planned closure of Walkup Road has been postponed from mid-June. The closure has not yet been rescheduled.
Work on the road this year consists of two parts: improving the intersection of Walkup Road and Route 176, and widening and resurfacing from Crystal Springs Road to Bull Valley Road.
Plans call for two lanes in each direction at the intersection, along with separate turn lanes. Walkup will get a continuous center turn lane north of Crystal Ridge Drive and will be widened to three lanes from north of Crystal Springs Road to south of Bull Valley Road. New signals will installed at Mason Hill Road.
You can follow the $11 million project’s progress at www.walkuproad.com or on Twitter at @WalkupConstruct.
SPEAKING OF WALKUP: Gates Street will be closed at Walkup Avenue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. today for water-main work.
ROUTE 31: Work is under way on Route 31 between Virginia and Klasen roads.
One lane in each direction will be open on the existing west side of Route 31 while northbound lanes are built. When they are done, traffic will be shifted to the new lanes and new southbound lanes will be built. Work also will include turn lanes and modernized signals at both the Virginia and Klasen intersections.
Work on the $8.5 million project is expected to be finished next spring. Visit the project website at www.IL31Virginia.com for information and to sign up for email alerts.
Farther north, work is ongoing to widen and resurface Route 31 near Prairie Grove between Ames and Edgewood roads. Work is scheduled to be finished in September.
ROUTE 47: Work is ongoing to resurface Route 47 between Woodstock and Hebron, and between Woodstock and Huntley.
Route 47 is down to a single lane with flaggers where construction is taking place.
ROUTE 120: Workers are beginning to install traffic signals at Route 120 and Fleming Road. Be on the lookout for workers, especially coming around the curve heading west.
PINGREE ROAD: Pingree Road from Congress Parkway to north of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks is closed for intersection improvements and road widening.
Work is tentatively scheduled to be finished in September. Visit www.pingreeconstruction.info for updates and to sign up for email alerts.
RAKOW ROAD: Expect delays during the second and what is to be the final year of the Rakow Road widening project.
When finished, Rakow Road will be six lanes between Pyott and Ackman roads, and four lanes between Pyott Road and Route 31. Watch for delays at its intersections with Route 31 and Pyott Road, and at the intersection of Randall and Ackman roads.
You can follow progress online and sign up for email at www.rakowroad.com, or follow it on Twitter at @RakowRoad.
COUNTRY CLUB ROAD: Detour noticed last week that county road workers had part of the back way between Crystal Lake and Woodstock down to one lane as workers patched and painted.
BRIDGES: Dunham Road between Root Road and Route 23 is closed so workers can replace a bridge over Rush Creek.
A posted detour takes drivers around Route 23, Bunker Hill and Island roads.
Graf Road between White Oaks and Maxon roads is closed to replace a bridge over Piscasaw Creek. A posted detour takes drivers on White Oaks Road, Route 173 and Oak Grove Road.
Work on both bridges is expected to end in August.
