Algonquin, Richmond
to hold roadside checks

Illinois State Police and the Algonquin Police Department will conduct a joint roadside safety check Friday in Algonquin. State police also will conduct one Saturday in Richmond.

Officers will watch for motorists driving under the influence, transporting open alcoholic beverages, operating unsafe vehicles and driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license.

Alcohol or drug impairment is a significant factor in more than 40 percent of all fatal vehicle crashes in Illinois, state police said in news release.

The roadside checks are part of the “You Drink and Drive, You Lose” campaign, funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The grant is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
