Detour: Walkup Road south of Route 176 to close

WALKUP ROAD CLOSURE: Walkup Road from Route 176 south to Woodstock Street will be closed starting Monday for ongoing road work. It is expected to reopen in September.

A posted detour will take drivers along a Main Street–Crystal Lake Avenue route.

Work on the road this year consists of two parts: Improving the intersection of Walkup Road and Route 176, and widening and resurfacing from Crystal Springs Road to Bull Valley Road.

Plans call for two lanes in each direction at the intersection, along with separate turn lanes. Walkup Road will get a continuous center turn lane north of Crystal Ridge Drive, and will be widened to three lanes from north of Crystal Springs Road to south of Bull Valley Road, with new signals installed at the Mason Hill Road intersection.

DON’T TAKE THE HILL: The McHenry County Division of Transportation announced last week that it is extending the closure of the Hill Road Bridge east of Richmond until next spring.

Work to replace the crumbling bridge, closed since January, was supposed to start this summer, but procurement problems forced the Illinois Department of Transportation to rebid the project.

PAVING MOVING ALONG: County paving work is wrapping up this week on stretches of Marengo Road between Marengo and Huntley, Pyott Road south of Rakow Road in Lake in the Hills, and Hughes Road west of Woodstock.

Also, paving work is almost done on Route 47 between Woodstock and Huntley. It is still ongoing between Woodstock and Hebron.

ELSEWHERE ON ROUTE 47: If your travels take you to Kane County, watch for workers who have started on the project to build a full interchange with Interstate 90.

ROUTE 120: Work is beginning to install traffic signals at the intersection of Route 120 and Fleming Road. Be on the lookout for workers, especially coming around the curve heading westbound.

PINGREE ROAD: Pingree Road from Congress Parkway to north of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks is closed for intersection improvements and road widening.

Work is tentatively scheduled to be finished in September. You can visit www.pingreeconstruction.info for updates and to sign up for email alerts.

RAKOW ROAD: Expect delays during this second and hopefully final year of the Rakow Road widening project.

When finished, Rakow Road will be six lanes between Pyott and Ackman roads, and four lanes between Pyott Road and Route 31. Watch for delays at its intersections with Route 31, Pyott Road, and at the intersection of Randall and Ackman roads.

You can follow progress online and sign up for email at www.rakowroad.com, or follow it on Twitter at @RakowRoad.
