Cary Jr. High teachers perform "Call Me Maybe"
Parody videos of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" went viral this summer, especially after the Harvard University Baseball team did its rendition during a team road trip. That video inspired many others.
Some of the latest to do their own video were staff members at Cary Junior High School.
Sitting on a school bus, along with a staff member's son in a dragon costume, and one teacher sleeping in the back of the bus, á la the Harvard video, teachers lip synced and move their arms in the same motions as the baseball players in Cambridge, Mass.
"It was decided in our Building Leadership Team last spring that we should kick off the school year with something exciting and engaging - something that would send a message to the students that while we are here to learn, this is also a fun and inviting place to be.," Assistant Principal Eric Larson said in an email.
Teachers shot the video about a week before school started, and debuted it during an assembly during the first day of classes.
The school held the assembly to make students aware of the various clubs, activities and athletics offered at the junior high.
"The student response to the video was overwhelming," Larson wrote. "The majority of the students sang along with it in unison."
The teachers' video was posted on the school's Facebook page and has been viewed more than 1,000 times, and shared more than 100 times.
Teachers in the video included: U.S. history teacher Chris Thompson, math teacher Jill Natrop, history teacher Jon Diersen, science teacher Erin Schurter, physical education teacher Julie Bemis, math teacher Susan Sprau, and language arts teacher Tom Kiefer.
Natrop's son, Jarrett, dressed as the dragon, and Schurter's daughter, Rylie, directed the dancing.
