Fatal crash charge: reckless homicide

FOX LAKE – The driver in a weekend crash that killed a 21-year-old McHenry man has been charged with reckless homicide, according to the Fox Lake Police Department.

Anthony Cechini, 23, of Round Lake, is charged with felony reckless homicide, aggravated DUI resulting in death and aggravated DUI resulting in great bodily harm in the Saturday afternoon crash in Fox Lake.

The vehicle Cechini was driving struck a tree in the 100 block of Nippersink Drive about 4 p.m., Fox Lake police said. The front-seat passenger, later identified as David Letchinger Jr., 21, of McHenry had to be freed from the vehicle and was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he died.

Cechini was found a short distance from the vehicle trying to flee, Fox Lake police Lt. Mark Schindler said. Cechini and a second passenger then were taken by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Cechini was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the crash, Schindler said.

Cechini is being held at the Lake County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
