Twitter Talk: Athletes respond to ESPN documentary 'Broke'
ESPN aired its latest 30 for 30 documentary Tuesday night. "Broke" focused on professional athletes who squandered millions of dollars from their playing careers and are now scratching to get by.
The series premiered on the network in 2009 as a collection of sports-based documentaries directed by notable names including Morgan Spurlock, John Singleton and Ice Cube.
"Broke," while centered around sports, was yet another installment in the series that proved to have enough substance to keep the attention of nonsports fans as well. While many of us might not know what it's like to have a multi-million dollar sports contract, we can still relate to money struggles on a much smaller scale.
Some current and former athletes related to "Broke" through Twitter posts as it aired Tuesday night. Here's what some of them had to say. The documentary reairs 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14 on ESPN2.
