Police: Cary day care provider injured child

CARY – Charges have been filed against a Cary day care provider after a six-week investigation into injuries to a 3-month-old child, according to the Cary Police Department.

Alvin D. Santiago, 31, of the 300 block of Ann Street, has been charged with a felony count of aggravated battery to a child in connection with an incident Sept. 17.

Authorities were called to the home for a report of an infant that was unconscious and not breathing, according to a news release. Santiago was responsible for the child when the alleged incident took place.

The child was stabilized and taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, where it was determined that she had suffered significant head trauma, the news release states. The girl later was transferred to Advocate Luther General Hospital in Park Ridge because of the severity of her injuries.

The injuries were consistent with shaken baby syndrome, police said.

Santiago has since posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 20.
