Ex-employee eyed in misuse of D-50 funds

HARVARD – Harvard police are looking at a former District 50 employee in the misuse of district funds.

Details of an investigation, including how much money was misused and how long the misuse went on, remain blurry. D-50 Spokesman Bill Clow declined to comment on the terms under which the employee under investigation left the district.

“I really can’t comment on Human Resource issues,” Clow said.

The improper use of funds was discovered in the accounts payable department, the district said in a statement last week. The district since has taken measures to secure its financial accounts and computer network, it said.

Harvard Police Chief Dan Kazy-Garey said financial investigations tend to take time.

“We don’t have the period of time yet as to how long this was going on, or any type of dollar amount,” Kazy-Garey said. “That’s still being investigated.

“It’s not going to be a short deal,” he said. “This one requires a lot of legwork.”
