Home of the Sparrow begins holiday gift program

McHENRY – Home of the Sparrow is reaching out to everyone to meet the needs of the community's homeless women and their children through its holiday gift program.

Donations help shelter residents meet day-to-day challenges. Donations of gift cards, linens, bathroom and kitchen items, dishes, glassware, plastic bed protectors, comforters, sheets and pillows are appreciated.

For a complete wish list, visit www.hosparrow.org or call Leslie at 815-271-5444, ext. 30.

Home of the Sparrow operates two shelters and nine site apartments that can house 63 to 67 homeless women and children on any given night. The average number of women and children served yearly is more than 100.

With the addition of the 13 new units of affordable housing, the agency expects to increase its housing and supportive service to accommodate about 140 women and children, a 40 percent increase.

In addition, Home of the Sparrow operates five Sparrow’s Nest Thrift Stores and Donation Centers in McHenry, Cary, Woodstock, Algonquin and Palatine.

To volunteer or for information about donating, call 815-271-5444.
