Bolin helps Huskies top Edwardsville

DeKALB – Aksel Bolin scored 15 points to lead Northern Illinois to a 65-54 win over SIU-Edwardsville on Wednesday night.

Bolin was 7 of 10 from the field. Sam Mader scored 11 points, and Travon Baker had 10. Keith Gray had five rebounds for the Huskies (3-5).

Jerome Jones led the Cougars (2-4) with 19 points. Kris Davis added 16. Derian Shaffer had seven rebounds.

DePaul 74, Chicago St. 64: At Chicago, overlooking its crosstown foe nearly resulted in disaster for DePaul.

The Blue Demons expected to roll but found themselves in a battle to avoid an upset. Led by junior guard Brandon Young’s 21 points and a renewed defensive effort in the second half, DePaul (5-3) overcame a 14-point deficit to beat Chicago State (2-8).

W. Illinois 57, E. Illinois 45: At Charleston, Adam Link scored 15 points and Ceola Clark added 14 as Western Illinois (6-3) defeated Eastern Illinois (3-7).

Malcolm Herron led the Panthers, with eight points, and three players added seven points each.

W. Kentucky 58, S. Illinois 57: At Bowling Green, Ky., T.J. Price scored 17 points, and Western Kentucky (7-2) held on to defeat Southern Illinois (4-2). Desmar Jackson led SIU with 22 points.

Ill.-Chicago 81, Roosevelt 43: At Chicago, Hayden Humes had 21 points to lead Illinois-Chicago (7-1) to its sixth straight victory, a win over Roosevelt, an NAIA school that played the game as an exhibition.

Jeremiah Jackson had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Lakers.

No. 19 Michigan St. 76, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 44: At East Lansing, Mich., Garry Harris scored 13 points, Travis Trice had 12 and Branden Dawson added 10 for Michigan State (7-2), which held Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-7) scoreless for almost 10 minutes at the start of the game.
