Cary Junior Trojans to honor group's first president

The concession stand and field at Cary Jr. High School is set to be renamed in honor of Dave Wescott.

Wescott helped reinstate the Cary Junior Trojans program in 1988, according to a letter from the Cary Junior Trojan Football, Cheer and Pom board to District 26.

"[Wescott] helped to form the vibrant football association that remains a staple in our community," the letter said.

Wescott was the first president of the current program as well.

"Year after year, he and his family have continued to keep our program moving forward both monetarily and through his long hours on the football field," the letter to the district said.

Currently the concession stand is named in honor of Stephen Drain, a former Cary Junior Trojan president, who is no longer involved with the program, said Cary Junior Trojans Coach Mike Kunz.

The school board is scheduled to vote on the name change next week. If approved, a dedication ceremony will take place in August at the beginning of next football season.
