Woman accused of leaving 3-year-old alone on bus

CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police have arrested a woman accused of leaving her 3-year-old granddaughter alone on a public city bus.

Elaine Overton has been charged with endangering the life of a child and possession of a controlled substance.

Police say officers who located and arrested the woman later found heroin in her pocket.

Officers were called after a passenger noticed a sleeping 3-year-old girl on the bus by herself Wednesday night on the city's South Side and notified the driver.

The girl was unharmed and taken to her mother's home.
