Noteworthy

Tigers’ big week: Crystal Lake Central can get a firm grasp on the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division lead with a pair of road victories this week. The Tigers visit Woodstock at 7 p.m. today, then travel to Hampshire for a 7 p.m. game Friday.

Hampshire (17-3 overall, 6-1 FVC Fox) leads the division, with Central (17-2, 5-1) and Woodstock (14-6, 4-2) right behind.

Woodstock defeated Central, 54-53, this month at the Central Fieldhouse in a game Tigers starters Brad Knoeppel and David Panicko missed because they were sick.

Central defeated Hampshire, 65-33, in their first meeting, which was the first game for both teams after the holiday break.

Rarity: If Cary-Grove sophomore guard Jason Gregoire looked a little shocked after missing a free throw against Dundee-Crown on Friday, there was good reason: Gregoire is shooting 90.5 percent from the line at 38 for 42 this season.

Gregoire holds a slight lead among area players over Huntley’s Jake Wagner (90.0).

Firing away: McHenry has built its offense around trying to score in transition or from behind the 3-point arc. No area team has made as many 3s as the Warriors, who have 132 in 18 games.

McHenry is shooting 35 percent on 3s. Varvil leads the area with 45 3s and is hitting 41.2 percent on 3s.

This week’s top games

CL Central at Woodstock

7 p.m. today

Central is one-half game behind Hampshire in the FVC Fox Division. The Blue Streaks are still in the race at 11⁄2 games behind.

CL Central at Hampshire

7 p.m. Friday

Hampshire defeated Woodstock last week to grab sole possession of first place in the FVC Fox. The Tigers won the first meeting with a lopsided score.

Jacobs at Dundee-Crown

7 p.m. Friday

When D-C visited Jacobs, it was one of the best games in the area this season, a 76-66 Jacobs victory in two overtimes. This one should be another exciting matchup between the District 300 rivals.
