HUNTLEY – The Huntley Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy.

The academy is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. March 20 and will meet every Wednesday night through May 22 at the police department, 10911 Main St.

The 10-week program is designed to give participants a working knowledge of the police department. It consists of a series of classes and discussions that provide an overview of law enforcement. It allows citizens to learn about issues that affect law enforcement in Huntley.

The academy is free of charge and open to individuals who are at least 18 years of age and live or work in Huntley. Applicants will be subject to a background check.

Graduates of the program are not certified police officers; however, they are prepared with a better knowledge of how law enforcement agencies operate. Some graduates decide to join the Huntley Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, which provides continuing education and volunteer opportunities with the department.

Seating is limited. The registration deadline is March 1. Applications are available at the police department or can be downloaded from the department’s website, www.huntley.il.us/depts/police.asp.

For information on this program, call Sgt. L.J. Marak at 847-515-5409.
