For the money

To the Editor:

Sometimes when I read an article in the Northwest Herald, I think I’m in the Twilight Zone.

Feb. 21, I read “New plea options for DUIs.” The article said money wasn’t the primary motivation. Why don’t they tell us what the primary motivation was. Is it to teach our children that drunk driving is OK, and if you get caught you’ll pay a little but not a lot?

Is it to tell drunk drivers that it won’t go on your record as a DUI so you can continue to drive drunk without penalty until you kill or maim someone?

Woodstock, which has more than its share of drunk drivers, already passed this ordinance. I think people hurt or killed by drunk drivers should be able to sue the cities who passed this ordinance. That would prove to me they didn’t do it for the money.
