AURORA, Ill. (AP) — Police are sweeping the Aurora University campus in suburban Chicago in response to multiple emails containing bomb threats.

Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli says officers from the department and the campus police had not found anything as of mid-morning Wednesday. He says the emails began around 8 a.m.

The university canceled classes and employees were sent home. University spokesman Steve McFarland says the school received three or four similar e-mails containing non-specific bomb threats.

About 650 students living on campus were being relocated to an Aurora elementary school, but the university said it planned to allow them to return in the afternoon.

The school promised hourly updates on its website and Twitter feed.

Aurora University is about 40 miles west of downtown Chicago.
