Illinois man jailed in 3-year-old's death

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — A 23-year-old central Illinois man has been arrested on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder in the beating death of a 3-year-old boy.

McLean County State's Attorney Jason Chambers said Friday that Nicholas Anthony Compton was jailed after the Tuesday death of Robert Cramer of Normal. Compton was also charged with aggravated domestic battery.

Court officials say Compton has not entered a plea and doesn't yet have an attorney. He is being held on $1 million bond.

Coroner Beth Kimmerling says the boy died at a hospital after suffering abdominal injuries as a result of some kind of blunt force trauma.

Police say the boy was staying with Compton at the time he was injured. They have not released information about how Compton knew the boy's family.
