Perschke helps taxpayers

To the Editor:

I have been a McHenry Township trustee for 12 years. This has given me the opportunity to work alongside Township Assessor Carol Perschke.

Perschke has the same number of staff members as when she started 17 years ago. She has done this by effective management of taxpayer resources. Carol was one of the first assessors in McHenry County to install a network computer system and implement the use of assessment software. She was also the first to provide assessment information on the Internet.

I often see Carol’s lone vehicle in the township parking lot on the weekend. I asked Carol why she works so much on the weekends. Her response was, “The taxpayers hired me to do this job, not to pay staff overtime to do my job.”

Carol is an elected official actually concerned about keeping her expenses down. Why change what isn’t broken?
