Fire leaves Island Lake home uninhabitable

ISLAND LAKE – An Island Lake home was left uninhabitable Tuesday night after an outside water heater caught fire, according to the Wauconda Fire District.

Firefighters were called to a residence in the 200 block of Channel Drive for a report of a structure fire at around 8:45 p.m., fire officials said. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from a water heater located outside the home.

The majority of damage was contained to the outside of the home, but smoke traveling inside the home left it uninhabitable.

Damage was estimated at about $10,000.

No one was injured.

Firefighters from Lake Zurich, Cary, Nunda Rural and McHenry Township assisted with the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
