Police increase enforcement leading up to Memorial Day
Police departments in the area have kicked off their annual Click It or Ticket Campaigns through the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Woodstock and the McHenry County Sheriff's office are among the 500 law enforcement agencies in the state participating in the program to strongly enforce seatbelt laws.
"As we kick-off the busy summer driving season, it's important for everyone to buckle up every trip, every time, day or night," said Woodstock Sgt. Dennis Leard. "Our officers are prepared to ticket anyone who is not wearing a seat belt."
The Lake in the Hills Police Department has begun a late-night enforcement to crackdown on late-night impaired drivers.
"We will be stepping up our late-night enforcement efforts making sure impaired drivers are off the road and motorists are buckled up," said James Wales, director of Police and Public Safety.
The department recommended people to establish designated drivers before going out, or call a taxi if people are impaired. People should also report impaired drivers to the police.
