ALGONQUIN – The village of Algonquin will host its 11th annual Conservation Community Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 21 along the Woods Creek bike path from Bunker Hill Drive south to Woods Creek Lane.

Parking is available on Bunker Hill Drive, Woods Creek Lane, Brookside Drive and the Algonquin Area Public Library on Harnish Drive.

The theme is “Local Farms=Fresh Foods=Better Health.” The free event aims to educate residents about how they can help preserve and protect natural resources.

Activities include making art from recycled materials and visiting booths sponsored by local environmental organizations, such as McHenry County Conservation District, McHenry County Audubon, Environmental Defenders of McHenry County, The Land Conservancy of McHenry County, Natural Area Volunteers, Illinois Paddling Council, Master Gardener Program through University of Illinois Extension, and Algonquin Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry); local governmental agencies, such as the McHenry County Health Department, Algonquin Public Works, Algonquin Area Library District, Kane County Fit for Kids, and the Kane-DuPage Soil and Water Conservation District; and local companies with a “green” emphasis, such as Tower Gardens and Costco.

Each group will have a table that may include information, volunteer opportunities, children's activities and more.

“Conservation Community Day is a wonderful event to bring families out to the Woods Creek bike path to experience nature firsthand,” Katie Parkhurst, senior planner for the village of Algonquin and organizer of the event, said in a news release.
