JOHNSBURG – The American Cancer Society Relay for Life – Richmond/McHenry Township will be from 6 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday at McHenry Township Park, 3703 N. Richmond Road.

Although the main objective of Relay for Life is to raise money for cancer research and cancer patients, the event also helps spread cancer awareness, celebrate the lives of survivors, remember those who lost their lives to cancer and unite the community in the fight against cancer.

As of Tuesday, 190 individuals were registered to participate on 36 teams. More than $10,000 had been raised.

This year’s event, with a theme of “Relay for Life – One in a Million,” is sponsored by Letizia Financial Group. DJ services will be provided by Party Train Entertainment.

Festivities begin at 4 p.m. with children’s activities provided by McHenry West Key Club. A silent auction opens at 4:30 p.m., and a kids edition of Relay’s Got Talent will run from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The opening ceremonies, with the national anthem sung by Alexis Chancellor, will be at 6 p.m., with the survivor lap at 6:30 p.m.

Other highlights include live music by 1990s cover band Rough Night Out and a performance by Chancellor.

A Fight Back Ceremony will be at midnight.

A rooster crowing contest will be at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, and a closing ceremony will be at 5 a.m.
