Crystal Lake names new deputy police chief

CRYSTAL LAKE – The Crystal Lake Police Department announced the naming of longtime officer Derek Hyrkas as its newest deputy chief Wednesday.

Hyrkas, an 18-year veteran with the department, has served as a criminal investigator, staff sergeant and most recently operations commander where he headed the Target Response Unit and internal affairs.

The Northwestern University graduate is also a Marine veteran who earned the Presidential Service Badge, Navy Achievement Medal and provided presidential secuirty at Camp David in Maryland.

He will begin his new role Monday.
