D-158 challenges students to read one million minutes
Huntley District 158 is looking for their students to read a total of one million minutes through any form of literature students can find, as part of the district's summer reading challenge.
Elementary, middle and high school students can visit the district's website to participate and log their reading minutes to help the district reach its goal of one million minutes. Students can select books of any genre, including adventures, non-fiction, short stories, nursery themes, classics and nature.
So far, students from schools across the district have logged 32,296 total minutes. The summer reading challenge is meant to keep students engaged in learning through the summer and develop a commitment to reading.
Students and their families can even visit the libraries at Leggee Elementary and Martin Elementary. The libraries are open every Tuesday during the summer to all K-5 students enrolled in the district.
To track reading minutes, go to the district's website and click on "summer reading" under quick links. For questions about the district's summer reading program, contact Michelle George, director of curriculum and instruction, at (847) 659-6140.
