To the Editor:
There has been a flurry of letters since the Boy Scouts were ousted from a local church.
Everyone has their own opinions on this matter, but Linda Schmidt’s letter to the editor stated it so plainly.
Everyone is quoting different parts of the Bible, but the main idea behind the Bible is that God created all of us in his image and loves us all. That means he also created gays and lesbians. Jesus died on the cross for all of us. Never did he say I am here for a select few.
If the Church can and has forgiven the scandals or various priests, then why are they so vocal and unforgiving to the scout organization? Is it because the scouts are being an inclusive group instead of exclusive group? Now, I ask all people of faith, what does faith mean if it becomes exclusive?
That could never have been God’s intent.
I belong to a United Church of Christ church, and our philosophy is all are welcome and our motto is, “God is still speaking.” What a shame so many are not listening. All are welcome because we are all God’s children, and he loves us all.
