WEST DUNDEE – A youth minister at a West Dundee church has been charged with having sexual contact with a minor inside the church.

Chad A. Coe, 31, 500 block of Dundee Avenue, Elgin, is scheduled to appear in Kane County court Thursday for a bond hearing, after police charged Coe on Tuesday with criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.

The Kane County State's Attorney office alleged in a news release that Coe had sexual contact with a person younger than 17 years old between June 10 and 14 at the First Congregational Church of Dundee, where Coe works as the youth ministry director.

Coe was in a position of authority over the minor when the sexual conduct happened, the State's Attorney office said. The minor's mother alerted authorities of the incident, the news release stated.

Coe is scheduled to appear in Kane County Bond Court at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, to have his bond set. If convicted of the more serious Class 1 felony, Coe faces between four and 15 years in state prison. He would have to register as a sex offender for life.

The Kane County Child Advocacy Center is investigating the case. Anyone with more information can contact the center at (630) 208-5160.
