Man who attempted to flee now facing escape charges

WOODSTOCK – A Fox River Grove inmate who tried to escape from custody when he fled from a McHenry County courtroom is now facing escape charges.

Dylan E. Draut, 39, on Monday ran out of Judge Sharon Prather’s courtroom shortly after being arraigned. He is in custody at McHenry County Jail and was brought to the courtroom that morning for an appearance.

Draut made it down two flights of stairs before being tackled by a courthouse security officer on the first floor. Prather’s courtroom is on the third floor.

In addition to previous charges of burglary, armed violence, aggravated battery and possession of burglary tools, Draut now is charged with escape, a Class 2 felony.

Draut was not in handcuffs and was wearing orange jail scrubs and flip-flops. There were no injuries.

Prisoners who appear in McHenry County courtrooms typically are escorted by jail guards through secure hallways and elevators directly into courtrooms.
