Algonquin’s Cool Cities

To the Editor:

I approve of the city using natural gas vehicles.

But can you help me understand something? They reduced emissions by 4 metric tons? How in the world do two vehicles even produce 4 metric tons (8,800-plus pounds) of emissions in four months?

The EPA website says carbon-dioxide emissions from a gallon of gasoline is 8,887 grams per gallon. How is that possible when 8,800 grams converts to 19 pounds? A gallon of gasoline weighs less than 8 pounds. How is it that burning gasoline creates more weight in carbon dioxide than it weighs in liquid form.

Somebody is being less than truthful here.
