Night Owl Bike Ride to showcase Crystal Lake sites

CRYSTAL LAKE – In collaboration with The Land Conservancy of McHenry County, the McHenry County Bicycle Advocates are sponsoring the Crystal Lake Night Owl Bike Ride, a 20-mile midnight bicycle ride through the city of Crystal Lake, on Aug. 3-4.

The ride promotes bicycling as an alternate means of transportation and exercise within Crystal Lake and benefits The Land Conservancy of McHenry County.

The idea is to have a unique activity for area residents to experience the streets, landmarks and people of Crystal Lake and to further promote Crystal Lake as a bicycle-friendly community.

The proposed route will start and end at the Crystal Lake City Hall and traverse points of interest such as the city’s Three Oaks Recreation Area, Pingree Road Metra Railroad station, the city’s namesake lake, the Dole Mansion/Lakeside Arts Legacy Park, McHenry Conservation District bike trails and Veterans Acres Park.

The ride will cost $15 a rider older than age 15. Safety-oriented Night Owl Bike Ride T-shirts are available to buy for $17 each.

Registration materials and an online registration option are available at www.clnightowlride.org.
