Chicago man gets life sentence in toddler's death

CHICAGO — A Chicago man has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting and killing his girlfriend's daughter.

Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez's office says 26-year-old Henry Miles was sentenced late Wednesday to natural life in prison plus 30 years.

The girl, Promise Hodges, was almost 2 years old in December 2008 when Myles severely beat and sexually assaulted her at the apartment he shared with the toddler, her mother and his relatives. The victim died as a result of the attack.

Prosecutors say the mother left the child in the care of Myles, who became enraged when the girl wet herself and vomited.

Myles was convicted in June of first-degree murder and predatory criminal sexual assault.
