MCYSA offers thanks

To the Editor:

The 21st annual McHenry County Youth Sports Association Summer International Championship baseball tournament is now complete.

This year, 98 teams played in the tournament, including 16 international teams. We estimate the local economic impact of this event was about $2 million.

The MCYSA would like to congratulate the community on another successful event, and thank all of the local government bodies, businesses, volunteers and neighbors who helped made it possible, especially our local host teams.

We recognize our sponsors, particularly Sage Products, the city of Crystal Lake, and the Crystal Lake Park District. We appreciate the support of the village of Lake in the Hills, the cities of Woodstock and McHenry.

Thank you, host families who “adopted” international players and shared your home.

Thank you to the hundreds of volunteers who served in so many capacities, from working at registration and at the opening ceremonies to singing our national anthem and serving as bat kids for out-of-town teams.

Thanks to Crystal Lake Central, Cary-Grove, Marian Central and Jacobs for providing fields and working to make them playable.

Thanks to the businesses and individuals who advertised in our tournament book, welcomed our visitors with notices on your marquees or partnered with the MCYSA to serve our guests.

We appreciate the excellent coverage of the games, and of the “people side” of the tournament provided by the Northwest Herald.

It really does take a community to host this tournament. Once again, congratulations and thanks.
