CRYSTAL LAKE – Specialty flooring retailer Lumber Liquidators recently opened a store along Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

The 6,400-square-foot store is located at 4500 W. Northwest Highway, adjacent to U-Haul Moving & Storage of Crystal Lake and across Route 14 from D’Andrea Banquets & Conference Center. It takes up space formerly occupied by three other tenants, including Rhino Flooring and a party supply store, said Marc Munaretto, of commercial real estate firm M.J. Munaretto & Co.

The store sells more than 340 flooring varieties, including laminate, solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, bamboo, cork and vinyl wood plank. It also sells Bellawood prefinished hardwood floors.

Lumber Liquidators also offers molding and trim, underlayments, grills and vents, adhesives, floor-care accessories and flooring tools for both homeowners and flooring professionals.

“Our goal is to make sure every Crystal Lake area customer gets a beautiful new floor that’s right for them, and at incredibly low prices,” Tom Sullivan, founder and chairman of Lumber Liquidators, said in a news release. “We cut out the middleman and deal directly with the mills, and that allows us to pass the savings on to our customers.”

The Crystal Lake location is Lumber Liquidators’ 13th store in the state and one of the first dozen to feature the company’s new store layout. The layout allows customers to touch and walk on a variety of flooring options. They also can use an in-store iPad with company’s Floor Finder app to see how more than 340 floors will look when installed.

Lumber Liquidators will have four employees here, said James Richter, the city’s assistant director of economic development.

“We’re excited to have them in Crystal Lake,” he said.

Lumber Liquidators Holdings Inc., a publicly traded company based in Toano, Va., has more than 300 stores in North America. It was named one of Forbes.com’s 100 Most Trustworthy Companies of 2010 and has been featured on TV shows such as “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and HGTV’s “Dream Home.”
