15-year-old charged with shooting Chicago boy, 7

CHICAGO — A 15-year-old is set to appear in court after being charged with aggravated battery for a weekend shooting that injured a 7-year-old.

The teenager, whose name wasn't released because of his age, is also accused of discharge of a firearm.

The Chicago Sun-Times says he had a previous warrant out for his arrest. He's scheduled to appear in Cook County bond court Tuesday.

Sunday's shooting on the city's southwest side injured the elementary school student as he was walking his bike into his home. Police say the boy wasn't the intended target and was wounded when a person on a street corner opened fire on a passing vehicle in the West Pullman neighborhood.

He's recovering at home, but his mother says he's afraid to go outside.
