Sandwich Fair 2013

The 2013 Sandwich Fair has come and gone. With it are some great memories for the tens of thousands of people who attended.

There were many old favorites with the exhibits and entertainment along with just the right mix of newer excitement to keep us coming back.

I was happy to judge three of the competitions on the Culinary Stage just outside of the Home Arts Building, Yeast Breads, Quick Breads and Chocolate Lovers Dream. It's quite exciting for me to see the commitment of the competitors and the pride of the winners along with the graciousness of those who will try again to win next year. All of their efforts are so impressive.

Cindy Akre is the Superintendent of this event and her Assistant Superintendents consists of Martha Blum, Teresa Akre and Marilyn Merkel.

These ladies work year around to put this event on in the the flawless fashion the contestants deserve and have come to appreciate. My hat is off to each of them for their selfless dedication to the furtherance of the finrest in home cooking. Each year the committee, headed by Cindy, takes the comments they receive and make minute changes to attempt the greatest culinary event possible. My toque is off to you hard working ladies.

This year, for the first time, I did a live cooking demonstration. Broad Leaf Greens, The Super Food was my menu and I pre-made enough for all to have a taste. I always have a great time demonstrating cooking techniques. There were many terrific questions and a bunch of "Mmmmmms" and "Ahhhhs" while the tasting was going on. I could tell the audience had a true passion for cooking. I hope we can expand this next year.

See you all at the Fair next year!
