Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness, including West Dundee native Paige Ellen (far right) during the halftime show Oct. 6 in Arlington, Texas.

Northwest Herald sports copy editor Kevin Murphy picks his top sporting events to watch on TV this weekend with a spotlight on local graduates:

LOCALLY SPEAKING

College football: Northwestern at Wisconsin, 2:30 p.m. Saturday, ABC

Hayden Baker and Quinn Baker (Cary-Grove graduates) play for the Wildcats.

Jon Budmayr, a Marian Central graduate, is a student coach for Wisconsin this season.

College football: Georgia Tech at BYU, 6 p.m. Saturday, ESPNU

Island Lake native Jake Ziolkowski plays for BYU.

College football: Illinois State at Youngstown State (in progress), 6:30 p.m. Saturday, CSN

Illinois State senior and Huntley graduate Jordan Neukirch is a fullback on the ISU roster. Illinois State sophomore and Richmond-Burton graduate Adam Pittser is a quarterback for the Redbirds.

Neukirch is listed as the No. 1 fullback on this week’s depth chart.

Pro football: Washington at Dallas, 7 p.m. Sunday, NBC

Paige Elaine of West Dundee is in her first season with the Dallas Cowboys’ cheerleading squad.

MUST-SEE TV

NBA: Preseason, Washington at Bulls, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 4 p.m. Saturday, CSN

Who doesn’t want to get excited for the Bulls’ regular season? This game just brings us closer with a little bit more playing time for Derrick Rose.

SET THE DVR

NHL: Buffalo at Blackhawks, 7 p.m. Saturday, WGN

The Hawks would like to not have to face Buffalo’s top goaltender, Ryan Miller, as he is listed day-to-day. Miller, in the season opener, lost, 1-0, to Ottawa, but made 45 saves.

At least Buffalo (0-4-1) doesn’t have a new coach yet. The Philadelphia Flyers fired their coach after an 0-3 start.

CATCH THE HIGHLIGHTS LATER

NFL: Green Bay at Baltimore, noon Sunday, Fox

If you’re like me, and you’re a Bears fan, then you’re watching and hoping for Green Bay to screw up on every play.
