ObamaCare a scare
To the Editor:
I just compared the cost of my current $5,000 deductible Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance program with the new Affordable Care Act coverage available under the Obama administration.
It is scary that under Obamacare, with the same deductible, my cost would increase $210 a month. It is a crime what the Affordable Care Act will cost the hard-working American public, unless your income is below the federal guidelines.
In 1965, we had eight mandates on health insurance in the U.S. Today, that number has grown to more than 5,000. The cost for these mandated benefits is staggering. In Illinois alone, only one of the 48-plus state-mandated benefits costs more than $5 billion a year. Under ACA, we now are subject to additional mandates.
ObamaCare basically is just another entitlement program geared to lead us down the path to universal, government-run health care, as in Canada, and pad the already bulging pockets of the hospitals.
When Franklin D. Roosevelt was president, both parties worked together in passing our Social Security program. When Lyndon Johnson was president, both parties worked hand-in-hand to pass Medicare.
What did Obama do? He circumvented our elected congressional leaders to bring us the Un-Affordable Care Act, ignoring the voting public. Republican congressmen are right in their attempt to derail Obamacare, in an effort to keep our country from bankruptcy.
