Roundup: McHenry's Michaela Matthys sets pool record

Michaela Matthys had a record-setting day in the pool for McHenry.

Her Warriors fell to Crystal Lake co-op, 89-81, but the senior erased a 10-year-old McHenry pool record and was nearly two-tenths of a second under the state qualifying standard in the 100-yard butterfly after touching the wall in 57.86.

Matthys also won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.29.

Danielle Dalbke won the 50-yard freestyle (27.55) and the 100 backstroke (1:07.65) to lead Crystal Lake co-op to an FVC win.

Jacobs 99, Woodstock co-op 59: At Woodstock, Jacobs won two of three relays and six of eight individual events.

The Golden Eagles were led by Nicole Sanchez who won both sprint events, the 100-yard freestyle and the 50 freestyle. Woodstock co-op's two wins came from Tess Devinger who won the 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley.

VOLLEYBALL

Cary-Grove 2, Huntley 1: At Huntley, the Trojans (14-13, 5-4) won a narrow three-set match, 25-27, 28-26, 25-21, in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division play. Kayli Trausch led the way with 13 blocks and 11 kills for Cary-Grove. Sarah Graham added five aces.

Emily Westermeyer led the Red Raiders (11-9, 5-4 FVC Valley) with 14 kills and 13 digs. Erin Lyman and Rachael Kisten each added 11 kills and Kelsey Dewulf had 33 assists and nine digs.

Alden-Hebron 2, Faith Lutheran 0: At Hebron, Brooklyn Hilton had four aces and Jazlynn Olivarez had eight digs for the Giants (6-10, 3-6) in their 25-17, 25-8 Northeastern Athletic Conference win.

Grant 2, Marengo 1: At Marengo, the Indians won the first game but dropped two in a row in a 19-25, 25-15, 27-25, loss. Charity Steffen led the Indians with 22 digs while Peyton Velasquez added nine kills and three aces in the loss.

Johnsburg 2, Woodstock North 0: At Woodstock, the Skyhawks won in straight sets, 25-12, 28-26. Gwynn Truman led the Thunder with four kills while teammate Sam Abbate and Sam Major combined for 29 digs in the loss.

Ashly Schmitt had 10 kills and three aces while Abby Majercik added 16 assists for the Skyhawks.

Prairie Ridge 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Carpentersville, Charli Beam led the Wolves with nine kills while teammate Taylor Otto added four digs and 26 assists in the win.

Ashley Raby had five kills and Frankie Cavallaro added four for the Chargers in the straight-set 25-20, 25-16, loss.

BOYS SOCCER

McHenry 3, Jacobs 1: At McHenry, Ovidio Jasso and Jose Dominguez score first-half goals for the Warriors while Kyle Marsh tallied a second-half score.

Tim Hubner scored the Golden Eagles' only goal on a feed from Cris Guzman in the second half while goalkeeper Spencer Dixon made five stops in the loss.

Prairie Ridge 1, Larkin 0: At Crystal Lake, Nick McCann scored a second-half goal to lead the Wolves (3-9-2) to victory in nonconference play. Brian Farstead made six saves in the win.

Huntley 3, Crystal Lake South 1: At Huntley, Niko Mihalopoulos and Eduardo Gonzalez each had a goal and an assist to lead the Red Raiders (17-2-1, 4-1 FVC Valley) to a FVC Valley Division win. Scott Dorvilier added a goal for Huntley. Austen Emery had four saves in the win.

Matt Tobolt scored the lone goal for the Gators. Gus Alvarez made four saves in the loss.
