Woodstock Police Explorers program meeting set

WOODSTOCK – The Woodstock Police Explorers will have a mandatory orientation meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 24 in the training room at the police department, 656 Lake Ave., for young adults interested in joining the group.

No new explorers will be accepted into the program after Dec. 15.

Police explorers are young adults ages 14 to 21 who have an interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. They also must have graduated eight grade.

Explorers participate in community events to assist the officers with traffic and crowd control.

Once explorers have passed a basic police proficiency exam, they are eligible to take part in police ride-alongs. During the ride-alongs, the explorer has a chance to experience a day in the officer's shoes. They also will have the opportunity to assist the officers on nonhazardous calls for service.
