Report on reforms to stormwater ordinance available
WOODSTOCK – McHenry County has finished compiling a list of problems and shortcomings in its stormwater management ordinance.
The 9-year-old ordinance, which is enforced countywide, is undergoing a review to simplify it and eliminate unduly burdensome provisions that do little to accomplish the ordinance's goals of environmental protection and flood mitigation. The review also seeks to strengthen provisions that do accomplish the ordinance's goals.
The list of problems can be found on the website www.bettersmo.com, which was set up as part of the reform process. The report was distilled from input from nine meetings held last month with property owners, farmers, developers, and various government agencies.
The review and revision is expected to be completed next fall.
