Events planned for Gettysburg Address anniversary

SPRINGFIELD – The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is marking the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address with free entertainment and educational events this month.

On Nov. 18, an actress performing a reading will bring to life the memories of a 15-year-old girl who witnessed the Battle of Gettysburg.

Musicians also will perform a version of Lincoln’s speech set to music. The piece was composed by University of Pennsylvania music director Bruce Montgomery in 1963 for the 100th anniversary of the speech.

On Nov. 20, Union Theater will host historians discussing the address and its legacy, including how it inspired other speeches.

In the final event Nov. 24, Union Theater will screen the documentary “The Gettysburg Story.”
