ALGONQUIN – All Smiles Dental in Algonquin opened its doors earlier this month to give more than 100 people free dental care.

“It was a bigger success than we imagined,” dentist and owner Tim Stirneman said.

Stirneman and clinic employees were assisted by about 30 volunteers from First Institute Career Training For Success to perform about 115 procedures Nov. 1 on about 100 patients.

Many of the patients had lost jobs or insurance coverage and were unable to pay for regular dental care, Stirneman said. Many were in pain, but some came for routine teeth cleanings.

“It was a really good way to help out,” Stirneman said. “Everyone was very appreciative. Some had waited several years.”

The initiative was part of Dentistry From The Heart, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free dental care to those in need. Every year, thousands of individual dentists, hygienists, volunteers and hundreds practices worldwide donate their time and resources to host Dentistry From The Heart events.
