Party to raise funds for Shop With A Cop
McHENRY – Armed with a big bag, a calculator and a shopping cart, up to 200 kids, each paired with a police officer, will get to go Christmas shopping.
Crystal Lake community relations officer Kimberly Shipbaugh has participated in the program, Shop With A Cop, for the past seven years.
"It's eye opening and truly heart wrenching," she said breaking off. "Sorry, I get emotional. They come from different experiences, some more destitute then others but all deserving of what we give them."
Each child gets $150 to spend plus money for a coat, boots, hat and gloves. After the shopping excursion, the children get a breakfast buffet, can get their presents wrapped and see Santa.
One of the main fundraisers for the McHenry County Police Charities' program is a party that will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at 31 North Banquet and Conference Center, 217 N. Front St. in McHenry.
It is held by the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce business networking group MC3.
The party includes silent and live auctions and raffles. Past items have included a wide range of toys, horseback riding lessons, TVs and limo rides with tickets to a Bulls game.
"There's no saying exactly what folks will donate this year," MC3 President Michelle Myatt said.
The event will also feature live music, including a sing-off between Johnsburg High School and McHenry High School choral groups.
Donations are still being accepted. For more information, contact Mike Kutnick with Prudential First Realty at 815-363-8600.
