CRYSTAL LAKE – Crystal Lake family law attorney Karen M. Lavin, of The Law Offices of KML Associates PC, was awarded the Excellence in the Legal Profession award by the Martindale-Hubbell organization for 2013.

The peer review rating is earned through a process that is managed and monitored by Martindale-Hubbell, a 145-year old company that provides legal resources for consumers and is a marketing tool for legal professionals. Through the company’s legal directories, consumers have access to profiles of about one million legal professionals and law firms worldwide.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by one’s peers,” said Lavin, recipient of the award for the past two years.

Lavin has more than 30 years of legal experience, and her practice areas include family law, divorce, property division, custody and support, same-sex couples, order of protection, estate planning and probate.

She graduated with high honors from University of Wisconsin in Whitewater with a degree in women’s studies, and then went to Chicago Kent College of Law, graduating with honors.
