Boys Roundup: Marengo grapplers go 4-1 in Classic

The Marengo wrestling team went 4-1 in the Gary Swanson Dual Classic to finish in third place Saturday.

Cory Graham (138 pounds), Matt Pandocchi (182), Justin Dauphin (195) and Dylan Turner (285) all went undefeated for Marengo. Graham was awarded the “Heart of a Wrestler” award after winning all five of his matches in pins. Dauphin won four of his five matches on pins. as well.

Marian Central finished fifth, going 3-2. Joe Herff (132), Jack McGuire (138) and Nick Remke (145) all went undefeated for the Hurricanes. Herff won four of his five matches on pinfalls.

Woodstock went 1-4 to finish seventh. Alan Hafer (160) and Ryan Plourde (170) both finished with four pins to go 5-0.

Dundee-Crown quad: At Carpentersville, the Chargers dominated, defeating Hersey, 46-18, and Larkin, 50-22.

Diamond Flynn, Jeremy Marshall, Jarrod Raap and David Hamelberg each won two matches for D-C.

Grant quad: At Fox Lake, Harvard went 1-2, defeating Zion-Benton, 40-28. The Hornets lost to DeKalb, 47-18, and Grant, 53-9.

Glenbard East quad: At Lombard, Huntley went 3-0. The Red Raiders defeated Waubonsie Valley, 36-33; Oswego East, 39-27; and Oswego, 43-21.

Richmond-Burton went 0-3.

Mudge/McMorrow Invitiational: At Mt. Prospect, McHenry finished second with a score of 183.5. The Warriors were a close second behind Barrington (186). Robby Duh (120) and Luis Hernandez (220) each finished first in their weight classes.

Prairie Ridge finished 11th with 62 points.

BASKETBALL

Lake Park 65, McHenry 40: At Roselle, Kyle Postal scored 10 points to lead the Warriors (6-2) in a nonconference loss.

Huntley 57, Rockford Boylan 55: At Rockford, Amanze Egekeze scored 19 points to lead the Red Raiders in a narrow nonconference victory.

North Boone 83, Marengo 82: At Poplar Grove, the Indians (3-4, 0-1 BNC East) lost their Big Northern East Division opener. Adam Rogutich led the team with 21 points.

SWIMMING

Wild Stallion Jamboree: At Rolling Meadows, Jacobs co-op finished eighth with 93 points, and Cary-Grove co-op finished third with 132 points in the 12-team field.

Golden Eagles swimmer Alex Reinbrecht won the junior/senior 50-yard freestyle in 22.62 seconds.

Cary-Grove co-op won the 200 medley relay in 1:53.35.

Wildcat Relays: At West Chicago, McHenry finished ninth overall and third in the frosh/soph division. Kevin Braun, Trey Schopen, Josh Frost and Jackson Smith finished second in the 200 freestyle frosh/soph relay (1:36.53) for the Warriors best finish.

BOWLING

Viking Invitational: At Rockford, Kody Hudjera bowled a 1,345 series to lead McHenry to third place. The Warriors finished with 6,182 pins. Rockford Guilford won with 6,625. Hudjera bowled the highest score for the Warriors with a 257. Paul Colomer was second with a 1,219 series.

Marengo finished 20th with a score of 5,442. Jake Barton led Marengo with a 1,168 series performance.
