CRYSTAL LAKE – Residents interested in owning a pet and looking for a last-minute holiday gift idea can turn to the McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center.

A person who adopts a homeless pet from a shelter often is giving the animal a second chance at life, according to a news release. The cost to own a pet is often cheaper and discounts are offered on spaying and neutering.

The center is also offering gift certificates to residents that can be redeemed for pet adoption at a later time. To view all available pets at the center, visit www.adoptapet.com.

Other pet-related gift ideas include updated pet tags, a new identification tag and pet microchips.

The holidays can also be a stressful time for animals. Owners should consider putting an animal in a room away from the holiday festivities for the safety of the pet and visitors.

For more information, contact the center at (815) 459-6222.
