Crystal Lake South, sr., guard

Rasmussen averaged 16.7 points in three wins for the Gators, which included a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win against Jacobs. The senior guard’s performance included a 22-point effort against Marengo in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic on Saturday.

Noteworthy

Playoff assignments announced: The IHSA released the regional assignments for the postseason.

Two teams will be hosting Class 4A regionals. Joining Jacobs at the Golden Eagles’ five-time regional is Dundee-Crown while Crystal Lake Central, Crystal Lake South and Prairie Ridge are in the Cary-Grove regional. Huntley will be in the Rockford Jefferson regional.

In Class 3A, Richmond-Burton will host a regional featuring Johnsburg, Marengo, Marian Central, Woodstock and Woodstock North. Hampshire will play in the Aurora Central Catholic regional while Harvard was put in the Freeport regional. Alden-Hebron, in Class 1A, will play in the Rockford Christian Life regional. Faith Lutheran will be at Hinckley-Big Rock.

Girls basketball regional seeds will be announced at approximately 4 p.m. on Jan. 30.

Detweiler approaching milestone: Grayslake North senior guard Kendall Detweiler is nearing 1,000 career points.

Entering the Knights’ game against Crystal Lake Central on Wednesday, Detweiler is less than 30 points away from the milestone. The senior guard, who is one of the area’s best 3-point shooters, is averaging 21 points per game this season.

This week’s games to watch

Crystal Lake Central at Grayslake North

Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Both the Tigers and Knights have one loss in FVC Fox Division play and another loss could prove costly to the teams’ title hopes as they chase Grayslake Central, which is undefeated in the FVC Fox.

Northern Illinois Holiday Classic

Friday and Saturday

The winners of the four tournament pools face off on Friday with the victors advancing to Saturday’s tournament title game while the losers battle for third place.
