INA – Two people died and four others were seriously injured during a Christmas Eve crash on Interstate 57 in southern Illinois.

Authorities said 49-year-old Jill Gibson and a 13-year-old unidentified boy died in the wreck that took place around 12:40 p.m. near Ina. The two were passengers in an SUV and both from Hopkinsville, Ky.

The SUV’s driver and three other passengers in the vehicle were seriously hurt.

Police said the four received incapacitating injuries.

Investigators say the SUV was driven by 22-year-old Megan Michelle Hester, of Maryland Heights, Mo. They say she lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the median and was hit by an oncoming tractor-trailer.

The truck’s driver wasn’t hurt.

Ina is about 30 miles northeast of Carbondale.
