Voters don’t matter

To the Editor:

Illinois voter choices are set by two political parties and a gaggle of also-rans.

Only the Democrats count. Republicans are mostly a bad joke. Voters certify party choices but cannot deviate. Write-ins are allowed but unsupported by media. Wednesday’s “Our View” ignored the lock on the process enjoyed by the Illinois Democratic machine. All of this is because you follow your own marching orders. Voters just ratify.

The reason for redistricting the 8th Congressional: Joe Walsh. He is now a radio commentator. Tammy Duckworth was imported from Washington, given millions in funding, a gerrymandered district and top handlers (so she keeps quiet) to regain the 8th District, in which she has no interest. She held no prior office. The now-Democratic redistricted boundaries look like an amoeba.

Sen. Peter Fitzgerald was stopped by then-Republican House Speaker Denny Hastert. He said Fitzgerald “was not a team player.” Fitzgerald appointed three honest U.S. attorneys who effectively canceled the tickets of many of Illinois’ worst judges and politicians. The machine chafed but prevailed. Fitzgerald took no campaign funds from anyone. In this example, key Republicans served Democrat Machine interests. Except for Election Day, voters are irrelevant.

Some offices are uncontested. These are of limited impact. Even so, Illinois’ record number of townships and school districts, by design, remain job generators. Only exceptionally stupid, greedy officials are reluctantly culled from the herd. Most voters refuse to legitimize graft, give up and move out. Illinois is still the Land of Oz.
